Everyone experiences loneliness every now and then.
…And this can zap your self-esteem.
It can also cause us even to feel bummed out or depressed (beyond the common seasonal depression of the dark winter months).
It can lead us to take on unproductive habits.
It’s sad to think there are many lonely people out there who will have to deal with loneliness over the periods that make us feel it more, like Christmas or Valentine’s.
In some places, it’s really felt:

Their job is to take what the Prime Minister Theresa May has named the “sad reality of modern life” and try and change things a bit.
Studies have linked loneliness to health problems.
So, if you are experiencing loneliness, do know there are some things you can doabout it.
Now, some people might say, “pull yourself together and get on with life!”
But it’s not that easy.
But know this: You can take steps to improve things.
So if you’re dealing with loneliness this year and looking for ideas…
Start with some of these:
Take a Class
Take a class in something that you love, like art, or music, or the outdoors.
Consider joining a club where you can find like-minded people, learn to share ideas, and make new friends who are doing the same thing you love to do.
It’s good to have something to look forward to during the week. Make it a regular part of your schedule.
Becoming a volunteer for a cause you believe in can do wonders for your morale and mindset.
There are after school programs, retirement homes, and animal care shelters that always need help.
So, why not bring some joy to others. And see how it will add meaning and joy to your life.
You might even develop a sense of gratitude for all the good things you have inyour own life.
Because loneliness is a widespread issue, there’s a lot of people online who aresearching for someone to connect with.
Be careful though when sharing personal info. Fortunately, there are many legit online sites where you can meet people who share your same interests.
Seek out activities that interest you. Then, find a group of people that you relatewith, for dinner outings, hikes, or socializing.
Even if you’re an introvert, it’s good to get out every once in a while.
Don’t just stay cooped up in the house during the short days and dark nights ofwinter.
Strengthen Existing Relationships
You probably have people in your life already that you would love to get to knowbetter.
Call them up.
Make plans. Go out more.
Find ways to strengthen your existing relationships.
Consider Man’s Best Friend
Dogs and cats as companions are just that:
Wonderful and precious companions that will befriend you, no matter what.
If you take care of them. And show them love.
When you rescue a pet from a shelter to bring home, you get a friend for life!
Just remember it works both ways:
Your pet will require what you are longing to find, – friendship.
…so don’t leave them alone for long.
Givethem as much attention as you would like to get!
Speak to a professional, or find inspiration
Sometimes, getting out there and meeting people doesn’t completely get rid of loneliness.
So, it’s comforting to know there are professionals who can help you.
Particularly if you feel low beyond any length of time, or if you don’t enjoy daily activities like you used too.
Talking to a professional can help.
With the right support and advice, they can help you to face your challenges with the care and support you need.
And, finding inspiration can be as simple as writing in a journal on a daily or weekly basis.
