2020 was stressful, and so is 2021. With the pandemic, we’re all looking for ways to reduce stress. In this post, we share our favorite tips for minimalism to help you do that.
So far, 2021 has brought so many exciting developments and several stressful ones.
We’re all hoping the pandemic gets better soon, but still living with the reality that we’re not there yet.
And that can lead to disappointment.
Especially if things don’t work out as you expected…
But there’s also so much joy and hope in the air that things will return to some sense of normalcy, and we’ll be doing things like we used to before the pandemic.
- Gathering with family and friends (even if on zoom)
- Going to concerts
- Socializing more generally
Everybody has their favorite things they miss.
…as for us?
For me, spending time with family is the big one.
And that’s got us thinking about:
What really matters to me in the remainder of the year ahead.
And I keep thinking to myself that it’s not all about money.
Which is on a lot of folks’ minds right now.
If you’re anything like most families, you probably spent a small fortune on a bunch of gifts this holiday season.
And it was probably worth it!
At least for the smiles on your loved one’s faces…
…and the memory-making moments with your children.
But the materialism of the season can sometimes go too far!
That’s why I like to take time after Christmas and New Years’ to reflect.
- Breathing deeply.
- Focusing on what matters.
At least for me.
Now, you may have different ideas.
Not everything matters the same to everyone.
But these moments of reflection and renewal remind me of things that truly matter.
In spite of the materialism and consumerism that can run amok.
And one thing we’ve been thinking more about in 2021 is how to practice minimalism more often, and in new ways.
Some people take minimalism to an extreme, and that’s not our style. But there are tips for minimalism that you can adopt.
- Donating old clothes & toys
- Cleaning out your closets
- Decluttering your house
- Tidying up the house (i.e. picking up, not cleaning up)
- Figuring out how to outsource tasks to free your mental load
So: if you’re a bit anxious about the New Year, consider adding some time to your schedule each day to focus on things that matter.
By reading, meditating, practicing gratitude, and implementing some tips for minimalism.
Even just a few minutes.
Well, I can’t make any guarantees that these small practices of importance will do anything to radically change your life.
But if you’re anything like me?
It will help you be more present.
Have more gratitude.
And live more fully in the moment.
And manage the year ahead.
And I think of you do that? The world will become a little better every day.
